The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Ali has pledged to end Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorism in the Northeast for peace.
The 13-year insurgency has killed about 40, 000 people with the destruction of property worth $9.2 billion (N4.23 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
Ali made the pledges, yesterday (Monday), in Maiduguri, as he assumed office of the Theatre Commander, OPHK.
While taking over from Maj-Gen. Christopher Musa, Ali said: “I promised to use my wealth of experience from the various military operations,” adding that this will ensure an end to the fight against terrorism in the region.
“I’m going to continue with counter-insurgency operations, where General Musa has stopped at the theatre of war,” he said.
He noted that this year, is hoped to fight against Boko Haram insurgency that has claimed many lives and property.
Besides, he said: “We hope to hand over the flag of total peace to the people in the Northeast.”
Continued: “This is the time for our troops to run after the Boko Haram terrorists, until the war is over,” he said, stating that the troops are better equipped with superior firing power on the frontlines of Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
General Musa thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Faruk Yahaya for allowing him to serve as Theatre Commander, Governor Babagana Zulum, the media and troops for supporting him for 18 months.
