Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has inaugurated an 887-member All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council for the 2023 general elections.
According to him, the electioneering campaigns are hitch-free and devoid of violence and political thugs.
Inauguration the Council, at the weekend (Sunday), in Maiduguri, the Governor, disclosed: “Political thuggery has been banned before, during and after the general elections in the State,”
He warned that political thuggery does not pay, while electing the Borno APC candidates into the National and State Houses of Assemblies.
“The electioneering campaign team comprises APC critical stakeholders and top government officials,” he said.
While lamenting the recent violence, he said: “There have been recent disturbing and worrisome political developments during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally in the state.
“I am specifically referring to the spate of violence and assault meted out to the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during their campaign rally,”
He stated that the assault was neither deliberate nor pre-planned.
“It was a spontaneous outburst by some the political party miscreants, cutting across all political parties,” he noted.
According to him, what happened was despicable and unwarranted to threaten democracy and security of life and property.
“It however; fruitless to even contemplate attacking the opposition party in the state,” he said,
He, therefore, warned that an opposition political party tends to raise the popularity of the ruling APC before the electorates.
Besides, he added that there is confidence in the ability of security agencies to investigate the matter for justice and fairness to both the ruling and opposition parties.
On the pledges of electioneering campaigns, he said: “We’ve delivered on our 2019 electioneering campaign promises by redeeming the dividends of democracy to the people.”
End.
