Jutha Gupah, Maiduguri
The Borno state police command and the All Progressive Congress (APC) have debunked attacks on the convoy of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in Maiduguri.
Denying the attack, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, the Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, said: “The fake news of convoy attack during the PDP presidential campaign rally in Maiduguri was a mischief,” adding that the fake news was trending on the social media.
He however disclosed that a 32-year Danladi Musa Abba, was arrested for throwing a stone at one of the vehicles in convoy at the main roundabout of Maiduguri.
“We chased him, but entered a Church and were arrested for alleged cause of public disturbance,” he said, adding that it may cause threats to people’s lives during the five-hour campaign rally.
He said that an investigation is ongoing to arrest others.
Reacting to the alleged attack, the Borno state APC Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori said that there was no incidence of attack on Atiku’s convoy by party’s thugs.
He said the ruling party in the state is law abiding by providing the Ramat square for the opposition party to hold its presidential campaign.
Continued: “There is no PDP in the state and if Dino Melaye would lack what he will tell the people of Borno in canvassing for votes in the 2023 general elections,”
He warned that Melaye should desist from fabricating lies against APC.
End.
