The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has handed over 191 tons of food and other relief materials to the Borno state government for distribution to flood victims.
About 37, 000 households in the 27 Local Government Areas were affected by the recent floods in the state.
Presenting the relief materials, yesterday (Thursday), in Maiduguri, NEMA’s Director General, Mustpha Ahmed, represented by Mohammed Kanar, disclosed: “The Agency cannot compensate for the traumatic experiences of persons affected by the recent floods in the state.”
He stated that; that informed the Federal Government to approve relief materials to ameliorate the sufferings of flood victims.
According to him, the donated relief materials comprise 1,000 bags each of rice, beans and maize including 75 bags and kegs each of cooking oil and salt.
Other donated flood relief materials include 1,000 pieces each of nylon mats, men, women and children’s wears and mosquito nets.
“The Agency also delivered 2, 500 pieces of guinea brocade clothing materials for men and boys,” he said.
While receiving the materials, the Director General of the State’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, disclosed: “Our people are seriously affected by the recent floods across the state.”
She lamented the submerge of over 67, 000 farmlands with the destruction of many houses and livestock in 65 communities.
According to her, the delivered relief materials will complement Governor Babagana Zulum efforts to support the flood victims.
She, therefore, assured the NEMA boss to equitably distribute the relief materials to the hard hit victims.
