The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Atiku will tackle insecurity with the resumption of oil and gas explorations in the Chad Basin if elected in 2023 general elections.
Atiku made the pledges, yesterday (Wednesday), during the PDP presidential campaign rally at Ramat Square, Maiduguri.
According to him, the about eight-year All Progressives Congress (APC) administration is led by a continuous rise in poverty and unemployment among youths and women in the country.
Besides the resumption of oil explorations, he said: “The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai Alamin El-Kanemi tasked me to resuscitate the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA),” noting that this could address food insecurity, poverty and unemployment in the insurgency affected Northeast region.
Continued; “Today’s presidential campaign pledges made to the monarch in Maiduguri; include to overcome insecurity to lives and property to restore peace in Borno state and the country at large.”
He added that El-Kanemi tasked the PDP to link the national grid of electricity to the 27 Local Government Areas in the state.
He however asked the mammoth crowd at the square whether the people could accept the party’s political and economic changes for a better country.
The people, in the affirmative chorused that; “PDP will take us to the promised land of a secured Nigeria that fights poverty, unemployment and restiveness at all times,” assuring that poverty, unemployment and insecurity to lives and property will be overcome in 100 days of his administration.
The party also received over 5,000 defectors from APC led by Alhaji Ali Wurge.
Other party stalwarts at the rally include Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state and the Deputy Governor of Bauchi state.
