Mixed reactions have trailed a tweet made by a Nigerian @taadelodun, over a viral video of a bank ex-senior executive working as a clean in UK.
The video shared by the bank ex-senior executive, identified as Floxy Obi on TikTok went viral over the weekend after she revealed she left a top position in a Nigerian bank to work as a cleaner in U.K.
According to Floxy, a decent job was hard to come by when she moved to UK and she had to resort to taking up menial jobs.
She notified users on social media that she is currently employed as a cleaner.
Floxy posted the video of herself cleaning a living room in uniform, adding that the reality overseas is very different from what many people think.
She bemoaned her situation and admitted that, despite having a master’s degree, finding a white collar work was still difficult for her.
The ex-banker further urged the Nigerian government to make the country progressive so that no citizen would have reasons to travel out.
Floxy wrote: “UK will humble you. Masters degree holder indeed.
“Hahahaha laughing in Swahili 
see Ex-banker wey sabi give query anyhow. Nigerian govt; right all the wrongs and we promise we will come back to our dear country.”
The video which went viral on social media pages on Saturday, generated reactions from Nigerians on Twitter including @taadelodun.
@taadelodun said: “There is dignity in labour in Britain. Cleaners can earn £100 a day, that’s £2,000 a month without overtime. Cleaners can buy a house with mortgage, go on holiday twice a year. I use to work with a labourer that had Man Utd season ticket. Working class people can do great things.”
Many tweeps disagree with his view that cleaners can earn £2000 monthly in U.K., buy a house, go on vacation twice a year among other things.
A tweep, @El_Marvis queried @taadelodun’s comment about cleaners possibly earning £2000 a month.
He said: “Bro, try dey include taxes when you dey calculate your wages for these jobs because you not adding taxes is misleading. £2000 earnings, what’s her take home pay? £1200?”
@UchennaEkechuk weighed in, noting: “I arrived the UK with my family 8 weeks ago, I have been working in a recycling plant in the last 6 wks, I earn about £545 wkly and take home a bit above £2k a month,that’s about £160 in taxes mthly! That £2k takes care of all our expenses and feeding and even some extras mthly.”
Another tweep, UZ, in disbelief said: “2k monthly take home:::::::wife and children plus rent???? This doesn’t sound factual, provide more details please and how you are able to do this so others can learn.”
@kesmniz also disagreed with @taadelodun’s comment, writing: “You dey mind am? Take home from £2000 is not £1200 max she’ll pay is £300 tax take home £1700 she can comfortably save £600 depending on her family size. Live in a clean environment, raise a kids in a developed society with good standard of living.”
Yemkem told @taadelodun to stop tweeting gibberish as a cleaner CANNOT buy a house on a minimum wage income.
“Even people who work in the bank don’t earn 2k a month let alone a cleaner. Stop tweeting gibberish and a cleaner CANNOT buy a house on a minimum wage income! Get your facts right!”
Meanwhile, @omocal4u, said people who do menial jobs earn quite a lot of money on a daily basis.
“In 2005 I was doing static security,forming big boy with my new shining SIA license. Met this plumber on my site,told me he earns £500 – £600/day. I was shocked! A plumber earning that kind of money? Ha!! Next day I was all over job centre looking 2b a plumber.”
