The Yobe State Government has engaged 556 midwives and environmental health guards to provide healthcare delivery services in communities across the state.
The 356 environmental health guards are to massively mobilize and inspect various households to comply with proper hygiene practices in each of the 178 wards.
Unveiling the engagements of health workers and guards, yesterday (Thursday), at a media briefing in Damaturu, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana, disclosed: “The environmental health guards and midwives are to promote basic hygiene in each household with an effective healthcare delivery services to the people.”
He added that over 200 midwives were also posted from the Primary Health Centres to implement the rural midwives healthcare delivery scheme.
“Our healthcare delivery interventions are to strengthen and sustain the resilience and capacity of the environmental health guards and workers,” he said.
He, therefore, applauded Governor Mai Mala Buni in overcoming the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic, flooding and the economic meltdown in the country.
Besides the 200 midwives, the State government has provided healthcare delivery services in each of the wards, while each of the 17 Council headquarters has a General Hospital to enhance tertiary healthcare services.
“We’ve upgraded four Specialist Hospitals, Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Buni Yadi, Yobe State Specialist Hospital Potiskum, Yobe State Specialist Hospital Gashua, Specialist Hospital, and Geidam respectively,” he said.
Others are the upgrading of Primary Health Centers to General Hospitals in Machina, Asibitin Malam Baba Nguru, Yusufari, Jaji-Maji, Babbangida, Bara and Buni Gari and Yunusari.
