The outbreak of cholera at Koshere Boko Haram repentant camp; has killed two terrorists in Maiduguri metropolis.
The Koshere camp was recently established to decongest the Hajj camp, as over 100, 000 terrorists surrendered to the Nigerian Army in the last two years.
Confirming the incident, yesterday (Monday), in Maiduguri, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, disclosed: “The camp is one of the facilities recently established to accommodate increasing number of repentant Boko Haram terrorists from Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region,”
She noted that there is the need to decongest the Hajj Camp, initially allocated to camp the surrendered Boko Haram fighters.
Besides the camp decongest, she added that two lives were lost to the cholera outbreak that affected many of the inmates.
Continued; “We had a cholera outbreak situation at the camp, but deployed every stakeholder from the Ministry of Health to move in and fumigate the camp,” stating that this could diagnose the repentant terrorists with cholera.
She said that cholera patients have been moved out from the camp for safe quarantine and treatment.
A source from the camp, who was not authorized to speak on the cholera outbreak, however stated that 20 deaths were recorded last Friday and Saturday in the camp.
The Theater Commander, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj-Gen. Christopher Musa had hinted that over 14,000 of the surrendered Boko Haram were active fighters.
According to him, the rest were however; innocent civilians comprising women and children.
He noted that this informed the Borno State government to open two more camps in Jere and Koshere communities.
