PRESS BRIEFING/PARADE OF SUSPECTS BY ONDO STATE POLICE COMMAND by IGBATORO ROAD, AKURE 18TH AUGUST, 2022

Date:

1. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS:-
On the 16th August, 2022, a complainant reported that a group of boys numbering about five (5) led by one ‘Para’ shot sporadically into the air and robbed him of his bag containing a large sum of money (Amount unknown). The Bullet hits Sakari Yakubu ‘m’ at the back, Basiru Idris ‘m’ on his hand and Akinbadewa  Omolayo ‘f’ on his leg.
The gang leader Babatunde Adeoye (AKA Para) has been arrested. Effort is on to apprehend other members.
ii.On the 6th August, 2022, at about         0230hrs, three armed robbers invaded   Ago Lisa Camp via Ayede Ogbese and   broke into the house of the complainant,  stole his TVS Motorcycle with Registration No, AKR 829 WL.
Combined efforts of Policemen and hunters led to the arrest of the suspect who was shot on the leg while combing the bush and others  took to their heels.
Investigation is on and effort is ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects. The suspect will soon be arraigned in Court.
iii. In the same vein, on the 4th August, 2022, at about 05:20pm, a case of armed robbery was reported at ‘A’ Division Owo, the victim was attacked by two armed men at gun point along Owo/Benin expressway inward Molenge road on motorcycle and was robbed of the sum of Two Million Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦2,350,000.00) cash.
On receipt of the complaint, Detectives swung into action and arrested the following suspects:-
Akeem Adams ‘m’ Aged 32
Goerge Okon ‘m’ Aged 35
Upon interrogation the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime. A cut to size locally made gun was recovered from the suspects. They will soon be charged to court.
iv. On the 15th May, 2022, a complainant reported at Akotogbo Division that armed robbers numbering five attacked and robbed him at his resident.
Items carted away are: two phones, Eighteen (18) Kegs of red oil, the sum of Five Hundred Naira Only (₦500,000.00) and his Toyota Picnic vehicle (green in colour).
Forensic investigation led to the apprehension of one Promise Ekenwa ‘m’ in Lagos State, and the Toyota Picnic was recovered from the suspect who had changed the plate number and the colour of the vehicle.
He confessed to be part of the robbery gang and he is helping the Police with necessary information.
He will soon be charged to court.
v. Also, a Complaint of loss of firearm (double barrel licensed firearm with No: 67997) was lodged at Ondo Area Command’s office with one Okosun Jude as a prime suspect.
The suspect, Okosun Jude ‘m’, was arrested alongside with one Fadayomi       Tope ‘m’.
During investigation activities, the missing firearm, which had been cut to size by the suspects, was recovered with thirteen live cartridges as well as twelve wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemps with two face masks.
The suspects will soon be charged to court.
2. ARREST OF  ROBBERY SUSPECTS:-
On the 10th August, 2022, at about 1100hrs, information was received that a four man gang whose specialty was robbing motorcycles where at Danjuma Area of Akure.
Policemen attached to SWAT office via intelligence gathering arrested the following suspects:-
Linus Daniel ‘m’ Aged 27
Emmanuel Joseph ‘m’ Aged 25
Thomas David Amu ‘m’ Aged 38
During interrogation they all confessed to the commission of the crime, one unregistered Boxer Motorcycle red colour was recovered from them.
They will soon have their day in court.
3. ARREST OF MURDER SUSPECTS:-
On 22nd July, 2022, at about 4pm at Aboludo Street, Owo, the deceased and one Imolehin Taiwo ‘f’ Aged 15 who were working at a car wash had a scuffle when the suspect (Imolehin Taiwo) requested for the deceased phone to call their boss. When Imolehin wanted to retaliate after being slapped, the deceased stepped backward slipped and fell down. He was rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Owo where he gave up the ghost.
The suspect has been charged to court.
ii. On the 23rd December, 2021, the Olu of Igbokoda, HRM       Odidiomo Afolabi  went to Okoga via Igbokoda in company of his Vigilante Group to remove speed breakers used on the road to dispossess travelers and other road users of their belongings while they were there, the duo of Mayowa Iledun and Akinwumi Ebifemi (a.k.a Espayol) with others who are currently at large emerged and started shooting sporadically and eventually shot Ephraim Abayomi ‘m’ and Agbadeloye Idowu  dead at the scene.
During investigation, it was discovered that the aforementioned were involved in several cases bothering on similar offences in which one Iwatan Bamidele and seven others had earlier been arrested and charged to Court for murder and conspiracy which includes killing of a Policeman on the 18th  November, 2021.
Effort is ongoing to arrest others at large while the arrested suspects      will be charged to court
4. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS OF PURPORTED TRADITIONAL RULER :-
On the 4th August, 2022, at about 1830hrs, based on information received that a gang of Kidnappers numbering about seven attacked a Toyota Corolla car with Reg. No. KAK 818 AE at Ago-yeye, Along Ikare/Owo road and four occupants, (3 male and 1 female) were kidnapped and held hostage for three days in the bush.
Upon the receipt of the complaint, men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in synergy with that of Oyo State Police Command swung into action which  led to the arrest of the following suspects:-
 Ilyasu Lawal ‘m’ Aged 27, Mohammadu Abubakar Sidi ‘m’ Aged 26
Garuba Bature ‘m’ Aged 36, Abubakar Dangy ‘m’ Aged 20, Mohammed Mosere ‘m’ Aged 25
Items Recovered:
Three Barrel Guns
(b) Five live Cartridges
(c)  Two Face Masks
(d) Two Jack   Knives
During interrogation the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime and the suspect will soon be charged to Court.
ii. On the 25th May, 2022, a group of suspected Kidnappers numbering about  five (5)  waylaid one ‘Walid Dou’ a road contractor in Owo town and in the process killed a soldier, Cpl. Saidi Baba who was the security detail to the contractor and Abubakar Zakari (Driver to the victim).
Forensic investigation by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad led to the arrest of one Yusuf Hamza ‘m’ who confessed to have participated in the crime and mentioned other suspects. He has been charged to Court.
iii. On the 7th August, 2022, at about 10:30pm, a complainant came to the Station and reported that his brother (names withheld) was kidnaped at Orita Odigbo, via Ore, the DPO of Ore led his team to the scene of crime together with the local hunters and one Joseph Audu ‘m’ Aged 35 was arrested.
Items Recovered:
One locally made cut to size barrel gun
One Toy gun
One live cartridge
One Viper pipe
One unregistered Toyota Camry car (used for kidnapping) was also recovered.
Suspect will be charged to Court.
5. ARREST OF SERIAL FRAUDSTER/LAND GRABBERS:-
On the 18th February, 2022, a complainant (names withheld) reported that the following Fraudsters duped him to the tune of Three Million Naira (₦3,000,000.00) under false pretence of selling a plot of land located at Atipere off Oda road to him.
(i) Lawrence Oguntuase ‘m’ Aged 55
(ii) Yemisi Francis ‘f’ Aged 42
(iii) Olanyi Femi ‘m’ Aged 47
(iv) Adebayo Babatunde ‘m’ Aged 63
The suspects also fraudulently collected the sum of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000.00) from another victim, selling the same land to him.
On the 8th July, 2021, the same set of fraudsters obtained the cash sum of Six Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira (₦670,000.00) from another person, on the 16th September, 2021 and sold another person land to him.
Upon receipt of the complaint, the suspects who all confessed to the commission of the crime were arrested.
They will soon be charged to Court.
6. ARREST OF NOTORIOUS BURGLAR:-
On the 29th July, 2022, a complaint of House Breaking was lodged at SWAT Office, that on the same day between the hours of 10:00am-02:00pm while the victim was away from his house, his house was broken into by unknown thief or thieves who gained entrance into his house through his bedroom window and stole the following items:- (a) One 42 Inches LG Plasma Television (b) One LG Home theater engine (c) One  stabilizer (d) One Press Iron (e) Four pairs Lacoste Sneakers (e) One Adidas Sneaker (f) One Rolex Wristwatch (g) One Lacoste Polo (h) One red pullover (i) One School bag and other items.
Upon the receipt of the complaint, Policemen attached to SWAT Office swung into action and arrested one Bello Nasiru ‘m’ Aged 42, who upon interrogation confessed to the commission of the crime.
Items Recovered:
(a) One LG Home theater engine
(d) One Pressing Iron
(e) Three pairs Lacoste Sneakers
(e) One Adidas Sneaker
(h) One red pullover
(i) One School bag and other items.
Case under investigation, effort ongoing to arrest other gang members, suspect will be charged to Court.
7. UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF POLICE ACCOUTREMENT:-
On 12th August, 2022, at about 0900hrs, Policemen attached to High Way Patrol along Ore/Benin Express road intercepted the driver of one white colour Toyota Siena Bus with registration number FKJ 568 HL conveying items from Lagos State to Benin. A search was conducted and Police kits such as ten pieces of (i) SPO’s Crest, forty pieces of Tear gas, Twenty pieces of Hand Cuff, Two Peak Caps, 149 pieces of Police Badge, Two pairs of Shoes, Thirty Police Belts. Twenty Black Berets, Twenty Green Beret,
The driver is helping the police with information on who way billed the said accoutrement.
 8. IMPERSONATION:
Likewise, on 2nd August, 2022, at about 1500hrs, a dismissed Naval Officer was arrested and handed over to the Police while escorting a vehicle along Ibadan/Owo High-way. The impersonator claimed he is  a serving  Military Officer and when searched, a fake movement pass issued by the Nigeria Navy was found on him and was half dressed in Military Uniform.
The suspect will soon be arraigned in Court.
9. RECOVERY OF FIREARMS:-
On the 7th August, 2022, Combined Teams of Police and Local Hunters in a joint Operation to arrest suspected kidnappers engaged some Hoodlums in the forest along Owo/Oba-Akoko road,
During a gun duel the Hoodlums however succumbed to superior firing and escaped with injuries, one AK47 Riffle with Breech number 06088 was recovered. Combing of the forest is in progress.
