The Mothercat, Greyland Multiple Investments and Elegance Construction Company have won the N10.2 billion roads project in Yobe State. The roads, to be completed in a year, cover a distance of 92 kilometres, including the 16-kilometre Nguru/Balanguwa stone-based road. While signing the contracts on Tuesday in Damaturu, the state capital, the Commissioner of Works, Engr. Umaru Duddaye disclosed that the three 56-kilometre road projects have been awarded at N9 billion. According to him, the awarded projects include the 36-kilometre Balanguwa/Kumaganam and 10-kilometre Chumbusko/Tagali roads. “The Ministry of Works in conformity with the due process law advertised for qualification and tender in two national dailies on August 17, 2021 and six companies bid for the various projects,” he said.
Besides, he added: “After screening by the technical committee, three of the companies were able to win the contracts for the respective road projects. He disclosed that Mothercat Nig. Ltd is to undertake the 30km Balanguwa/Kumaganam road at N6.91 billion and to be completed in a year. While Greyland Multiple Investment won the10km Chumbusko/Tagali road project at N2.2 billion and to be completed in 12 month. Speaking on other construction firms, he said: “Elegance Construction is to undertake a 16km stone base Nguru/Balanguwa road at N1.1 billion and complete in six months.
He therefore charged the firms to ensure adherence to terms of contracts on specifications and standards, warning that the Mai Mala Buni administration would not condone compromise on the execution of the road projects. The Permanent Secretary of Works Ministry, Suleiman Bakura, described the awarded road projects as important in raising the economic status of the people living in rural and urban centres. Engr. Modu Bukar who spoke on behalf of the contractors thanked the State Government for giving them the opportunity to contribute their quota towards the development of Yobe. “I would like to assure you on behalf of the contractors of the completion of four roads in accordance with terms of contracts,” he said.
