The Borno State Education sector has hit 35 percent of completed projects across the state in the last two years. Out of the 10 sectors, Education had 194 projects by completing the rehabilitation and construction of mega government technical colleges, primary and secondary schools across the state. These were disclosed in the Dashboard of the Second Verdict Compendium (SVC) released at the weekend in Maiduguri, the state capital. “The top five sectors accounted for 53.24 percent of completed projects that could impact on the living conditions of people.
According to the compendium, the Security sector had only 10 projects, as the military, police and other security agencies are engaged in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the northeast. Other sectors that followed the education sector, include governance; and roads, transport, urban and rural development sectors with 63 completed projects each. In the health; and water and environmental sustainability sectors, a total of 59 and 58 projects were respectively completed.
“The Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR); and job creation, youth empowerment and humanitarian support sectors already each have 53 and 28 completed projects,” said the released Compendium. It said that the RRR and the humanitarian support was to complete the return of 1.7 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps to their liberated communities. It further disclosed that the return of IDPs to the “no go areas” of Abadam and Guzamala will commence in November, 2021. While responding to the completed projects, President Muhammadu Buhari said: “I’ve gone round to commission some of the capital projects executed by Governor Babagana Zulum in the last two years.
“I’m very happy with what I saw. The Vocational Training Institute at Muna; in particular, is a dynamic answer to skills acquisition and job creation efforts,” he said, noting that such efforts will ensure non-existence of unemployed youths. “There will be no store of unemployed young minds for terrorists and insurgents to recruit from,” he noted.” He added that he was exceedingly happy to commission projects at the Borno State University (BOSU). According to him, the 12-year efforts of insurgents to disrupt and destroy modern education has come to naught in the region.
