In a bid to assert discipline against the future disregard for the Lagos State House of Assembly and guidelines governing the local government activities; the House on Tuesday suspended three Local Government Council Chairmen. Mr. Suleiman Jelili of Alimosho Local Government, Mr. Tajudeen Ajide of Surulere LGA and Hon. Ogidan Mukandasi Olaitan of Lekki LCDA respectively. The House unanimously approved the resolution of the complaint raised by Hon. Bisi Yusuff, Chairman House Committee on Commerce and Industry stated that Hon. Ogidan Mukandasi Olaitan of the Lekki LCDA flouted the State’s Local Government Guidelines. “The House in an investigation against one of the petition raised by Mr. Ogidan discovered that he had been misleading the Executive especially in carrying out his duties as Chairman of the Lekki LCDA. He misinterpreted the MoU of the Local Government Laws to suit his purpose, using many derogative words for the House. Accusing the House of being incompetent in carrying out their oversight functions as Legislative Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.” therefore appeal that the Chairman be suspended till the investigation of the House concerning his petition comes to complete.” He said. In the same vein, Hon. Fatai Mojeed mentioned that Chairman, Alimosho LGA, Mr. Suleiman Jelili and Mr. Tajudeen Ajide of Surulere LGA are also complicit in disregarding the House, Adding that other issues are been investigated against them. “If the House can recall, the Committee on Local Government embarked on visitation to various Local Government Areas; and Local Council Development Areas where it was discovered that the Chairmen fail to regard the constituted laws, set up executive meetings regarding the LGA and LCDA budget, and disrespect for the legislative council members of their respective areas.” He maintained. Appreciating both Honourable Members for bringing the issues to light and sharing their sentiment; the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa, noted that the total disregard for Local Government and Local Council Development Area laws will not be tolerated as it would be creating a precedence of disobedience to the Law by Council Chairmen. “We cannot continue to breed monsters in our local government councils and total disregard for the Local Government Guidelines will not be tolerated. The suspension of these chairmen will serve as a deterrent to others.” He sustained. The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko to write Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other appropriate quarters concerned about the decision of the House.
