Barely two days after the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, renamed Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) to Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) residents are providing information to the military fight terrorism in Northeast. Spokesman of Army, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Yerima in a statement Monday in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, disclosed: “Our OPHK is mobilizing critical stakeholders in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists. “Many residents in various communities have started providing us with useful information on the modus operandi of Boko Haram insurgents.” According to him; this has led to the arrest of some Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) supporters and collaborators in a tactical operation in Yobe state. On the arrests of suspects, he said: “In one of the operations, Nigerian troops located in Damaturu axis of Yobe State, apprehended some terrorists’ collaborators, including logistic suppliers.” He said the troops, led by Maj. Daniel Chiwar, the Acting Commander of 154 Task Force, arrested some of the suspects at Bulamari hideouts near Ngamdu areas of the state. He said that items recovered from the suspected collaborators include large number of jerry cans of petroleum products. Meanwhile, the troops also engage a gang of Boko Haram terrorists, driving in over a dozen gun trucks at Rann, the council headquarters of Kala/Balge in Borno state. According to him, the troops, led by Lt-Col. Samson Olashegbe of 3 Battalion, destroyed some of the gun trucks and recovered other fighting equipment, after the encounter with terrorists.
