Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has called on citizens to exercise their roles by supporting the military and other security agencies to fight Boko Haram insurgency. According to him, the support was for the people to provide useful information on insurgents’ modus operandi in affected communities. Buni tasked the people Tuesday, while holding an expanded joint Security Council Meeting (SCM) at Government House, Damaturu. He said the provision of credible information on insecurity has become inevitable, because of the incessant Boko Haram attacks on Geidam and other border communities. “I challenged our people to expose the bad eggs in communities even if they are their biological children,” he declared. On how to secure people’s life and property, he said: “Let me draw our attention to the citizenship responsibility and the roles expected of us in the fight against insecurity. “It is a collective fight and responsibility that we must be involved,” noting that everyone has a role to play to support security forces to succeed. The meeting which is chaired by Buni, other security chiefs in the state including the police commissioner, the Commander Sector II Operation Lafiya Dole, the State Director of the DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were at Government House for the SCM Continuing, he added: “We must volunteer credible and timely information to the security agencies to enhance proactive action in curbing the menace by terrorists.” “We must expose every bad egg in our communities even if they are our relations or biological children. “It is our responsibility to report suspicious movements in or near our communities,” warning that we cannot keep blaming government and security agencies while people hoard valuable information on insurgents’ modus operandi. Buni, who described the incident at Geidam and levels at which tens of thousands of people were displaced, are grossly inhumane and crude. He meeting with the Chief of Defense Staff, Lucky Irabor took far reaching decision that could restore peace in affected border communities, He added that far reaching decisions were achieved at the meeting with Gen. Irabor, particularly on reinforcement of personnel and improved strategy to effectively combat the terrorists. He assured that no stone be unturned to engage all the security chiefs towards finding a lasting solution to the increased attacks on Geidam. He said this will improve security generally in the state, as the security chief shared ideas on new fighting strategies to permanently secure Geidam. He therefore urged the people to intensify their prayers during the Ramadan fast.
