The Boko Haram terrorists have killed dozens of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Sunawa village, a border area with Niger Republic. According to Al Thabat, an al-Qaida affiliated media outfit, the killings occurred between the border areas of Niger and Nigeria. In a statement yesterday in Maiduguri, the Al Thabat, disclosed that; “The battle occurred after ISWAP abducted dozens of Boko Haram women.
“Boko Haram fighters subsequently attacked the ISWAP border base and rescued their women from captivity” The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Yerima disclosed this Monday in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. “ISWAP broke off from the Shekau led Boko Haram in 2016, and since then, bitter war of attrition and violent confrontations occurred between the factions of terror,” he said.
He noted that the incident has continued to expose the “disorganized and disoriented” nature of terrorists in the Lake Chad region. He said the recent operations under the Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, has continued to dismantle all logistics and operational bases of the insurgents in Lake Chad Basin and Sambisa Forest.He added that during the operations in the forest, Abubakar Shekau’s farm was also identified and destroyed with the rescue of abducted victims. He therefore reassured Nigerians of the determination of troops to clear remnants of terrorists from the country.
