Suspected Boko Haram terrorists; in gun trucks attack Magumeri; the
council headquarters torching telecom masts and other infrastructural
facilities in Borno.
Magumeri, 40 kilometres north of Maiduguri, the state capital was
severally attacked with kidnap of five exploration oil workers of
Department of Geology, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) on shores of
Lake Chad.
Also last week, two communities were attacked in the same council
area, forcing over 600 villagers to flee and take refuge in Magumeri
town.
Confirming the incident Tuesday in an interview in Maiduguri, Usman
Zannah, a legislator representing Magumeri/Gubio/Kaga federal
constituency in Borno state disclosed: “I can confirm to you that at
about 4pm yesterday (Monday) some armed Boko Haram terrorists attacked
our communities.
“When the military airstrike was deployed to repel the insurgents,
they however succeeded to infiltrate and destroyed the only functional
telecom mast at council headquarters,” noting that he does not have
casualty figures of attack.
He said that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets, could not
repel the insurgents, as they use Magumeri people as human shields,
while destroying the mast and other infrastructural facilities.
While lamenting incessant attacks, he said: “With the razing down of
mast, our people will now find it difficult to communicate with me
here in Abuja on the attack in constituency.”
Continued; “God in his infinite mercy; will protect our innocent
civilians against any harmful attacks from the terrorists.
“In last week’s attacks, we also lost many of our people who were
killed by the insurgents, as others sustained various degrees of
injuries.”
