Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state; has commissioned Buni/Yadi Township Roads and Drainage facilities to ease business and farming activities in the state. Buni/Yadi, the council headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area, was severally attacked by Boko Haram insurgents, destroying dozens of lives and houses in last six years. Inaugurating the completed roads Thursday at Buni/Yadi, the Governor said that the roads are more significant in their capacity provide people with opportunities conduct their business and farming activities with ease. “The completed township roads will make life more meaningful to our people, including Democracy and Governance to work as they should be at grassroots,” he said, adding that the roads will transform the state into more socioeconomic activities and the control of flooding and erosion.
According to him, the roads also provide the nexus that connects peoples and cultures and help underpin numerous socioeconomic exchanges and interactions among communities. He said the township roads cover a total distance of 4.1 kilometres with 8.2 kilometres of drainage facilities to control perennial flooding. He disclosed that the road project; was funded by State and Local Government Council of Gujba, adding that three other township roads projects; were also completed at Babangida, Jajimaji and Damagum, the council headquarters of Fune. While warning residents on roads usages, he said: “But as important as this project is, it’s lifespan and long-term usefulness depend to a large extent on how the people of Buni/Yadi make use of it. “If the residents convert the drainage facilities into refuse dumb to block the roads and do not allow free flow of traffic, they will create the conditions for flooding during the rainy season.
This, according to him, will erode the benefits and usefulness of road projects in communities. He therefore, urged residents of Buni/Yadi take full advantage of the services that the government is providing to them. “You should take ownership of the projects being cited in the community and jealously guard and make the best use of them,” he said, saying that the people should not relent in cooperating with security agents to ensure an enduring peace in communities.
