Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has commissioned three projects in the education and infrastructure sectors for effective service deliveries in Biu council. The inauguration; brings to 10 projects unveiled in the education, health and water supply sectors in Borno south. According to him, the inaugurated projects are located in Gwoza, Hawul and Biu Local Councils to raise people’s living conditions. While commissioning a mega primary school Friday in Biu, he said that several primary and secondary schools in the state; were torched by Boko Haram insurgents. He said the torching lasted for about a decade, with the loss of many lives and property.
“The decade long insurgency has led to over 110, 000 widows and orphans in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps of Maiduguri and Damboa,” he said, explaining that the mega school will absorb some orphans for their education. He said that the Biu Mega School has three blocks of eight classrooms with an administrative block for teaching and non-teaching staff. Other unveiled projects in Biu, include the Local Government and Education Secretariat complexes with 40 and 14 offices respectively. The Local Education Secretariat complex; is to “match and complement” the building and equipping of mega primary school.
He also yesterday directed Borno State Roads Maintenance Agency (BORMA) to complete 1.5 km road on Baba Nakori Street, Biu in two months. He said the state government will embark on additional 4.5-kilometre township roads.
