The Borno State police commissioner, Damian Chukwu has said that policemen have foiled an attempted kidnap of a son to Ibrahim Ahmed in Maiduguri, the state capital. Ahmed; is the Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state. Damian announced the foiled attempted kidnap of an eight-year old son to Ahmed at a news conference in Maiduguri. He said that yesterday’s incident was reported by a family member last Friday; that the child was kidnapped at a primary school in Maiduguri and taken to an unknown destination. According to him, the police command quickly deployed its Federal Special Anti-Robbery (FSAR) team as well as other security personnel on comprehensive patrol of metropolis to rescue the child. His words: “I gave them directives to block all exit points of the town and conduct search on all vehicles going out of Maiduguri. “The culprits apparently sensed danger and hurriedly abandoned the victim after about five hours and fled. “The victim was rescued and released to the family,” adding that the police is also trailing the culprits for their arrest.” Chukwu lamented the rate of kidnapping by criminals, urging schools authority to monitor people coming to pick pupils from their schools. He said that within one week, there have been two cases of kidnap recorded in the state capital. The four year-old son of Alhaji Bukar Dalori, Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) was also abducted on September 19, in his school but was rescued. He said three of the suspects were arrested by our FSARS. “We are renewing our clarion call to politicians in the state to always watch their back and report any threat to their lives by any person to the relevant security agencies,” he said.
