The Kwara State University, Malete, North Central Nigeria has unveiled the newly established Institute of Advanced Military Studies.
The interdisciplinary Institute is mandated to award Doctor of Philosophy degree in Advanced Military Studies.
While unveiling the Institute at a Press Conference held at the Senate Conference room, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, noted that the Institute is not a technical military school but an academic intellectual school where both military personnel and civilians would be brought to classroom.
Professor Na’Allah said the establishment of the research and scholarly based Institute started in two thousand and fourteen where the curriculum was drafted and developed, saying that the academic session would commenced in 2018/2019 session.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the coursework which would be rigorous and vigorous would also interrogate the immense potential transformation consequences of war related inventions and technological innovations for society.
Professor Na’Allah added that the Institute would also strengthen the epistemological pillars and expand the scope and breadth of a rigorous engagement of the military institutions as a subject of intense academic interest in the evolution of the post colonial state and society.
He said the Institute which would be self sustaining would not be a burden on the government, pointing out that it will collaborate with other military institutions across the world especially in Canada, Australia and United States of America.
Also speaking, the Director of the Institute, Doctor Ademola Araoye, said such institute should have been established since ninety fifty (1950) and lauded the foresight of Professor Na’Allah for the establishment of the Institute, saying that it would make positive impacts in the country.
