BORNO ELDERS APPLAUD BUHARI FOR RELEASE OF ABDUCTED WOMEN

The Margi Elders of Askira/Uba council of Borno state has applauded the release of 10 women abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on June 22, 2017 along Maiduguri-Damboa road. Addressing journalists at a news conference in Maiduguri on Wednesday, Chairman of Margi Elders, Isa Modu Chul said President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to the pleas of elders by issuing an executive order to release the abducted women. The women were abducted along with serving woman police by insurgents, while they were traveling to Lassa town to bury a woman police officer in a military escort. His words: “His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, who for his passion, respect and value for human life, promptly responded to our plea by issuing an executive order; backed by the National Assembly and prevailed on all security personnel and agencies. “Hence; there was pressure on Boko Haram to release our abducted women. And indeed they were released and in safe hands in Abuja.” Chul expressed appreciation to the National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen (rtd) Babagana Monguno, Director General, State Security Services, Lawan Daura, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for facilitating release of women. On the state of released women, he said: “They are hale and hearty, as we have spoken to each and every one of them. The released women are currently in the custody and care of Federal Government in Abuja.”
