In furtherance of steps to ensure lasting peace in Emohua Local Government Area, the Rivers State Government has inaugurated a 36-Man Peace Committee .
Inaugurating the Peace Committee in Port Harcourt, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor , Engineer Chukwuemeka Woke said that members of the committee were selected from repented cultists, youth groups and stakeholders.
He charged the groups to work diligently to restore peace in Emohua in order to facilitate communal living and faster development.
Engineer Woke said: “I want all repented cultists to know that crisis can never bring development. It can only bring destruction to the community.
” Let everyone come out and move Emohua forward like other LGAs in the state where people have shunned cultism and violence.”
In a remark, Former Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Amnesty Programme, Sir Ken Chinda urged the youths to shun violence and embrace peace in order to attract investors in the Local Government Area.
He thanked the youths for accepting the peace accord and asked to them abide by the declaration to ensure that peace reigns in Emohua.
Chinda said that there should be no more violence, no more killings, cultism and kidnapping in the area.
“I want to express gratitude to God that today we are here to reconcile the various groups in Emohua LGA . They have sworn to make peace and abide by the peace declaration with a view of opening the doors for investors to come in.”
A Youth Leader in the area, Chibuzor Asuro Chibike thanked the coordinators for initiating the peace committee among the various groups and urged all the men and women of Emohua to always pray for peace.
Another youth leader, Harvest Azundah urged all members who are still in the bush to come out and make peace, because peace concerns everyone in the society.
