Cameroon football team also known as the Indomitable Lions secured the AFCON in style with a dramatic and stunning second half comeback against Egypt. The host Gabon and one of the favourites to win the title Ivory Coast could not make it out of the group stages. Before half time Cameroon were a goal down to Egypt and after the first half it seemed as if Egypt would emerge as the champion having been predicted by many football lovers and Pundits that they would win the African Cup of Nations. But after the second half reverse was the case.
Cameroon since the beginning of the tournament were not seen as favourites because of thier slow and lacklustre performances especially in the group stages but eventually proved many football analyst, experts and critics wrong by going all the way to the final and showed great tenacity. They were a goal down but did not panic. They had the will power to secure the African Cup of Nations which was lastly won in 2002. An African Cup of Nations title drought for more than a decade. This victory marks Cameroon’s fifth AFCON title.
The final was a fierce battle between the competition’s two most decorated sides. And cameroon at the moment are just two trophies behind Egypt.
Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny had put his side (Egypt) in front in the first half, but goals from Nicolas Nkoulou and Aboubakar took away from the Egyptians the chance of securing eighth AFCON title.
For the Cameroonians what a way to secure thier fifth AFCON title beating African Cup of Nations most decorated team.
